A teahouse of some kind has been on top of Mount Coot-tha for more than a century. Part 19th-century Queenslander house and part modern extension, the Summit restaurant (www.brisbanelookout.com; 07/3369 9922) has wraparound covered decks with views of the city and Moreton Bay. A changing menu features local produce and wines. The sunset dinner menu—A$40 for three courses if you finish by 7pm—is available starting at 5pm. After your meal, enjoy the observation deck—the city lights provide a glittering panorama. On Sundays, high tea is served from 3 to 5pm (A$35 per person or A$45 with a glass of champagne). Reservations are recommended for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings. The Summit is open daily 11:30am to midnight (closed for lunch New Year’s Day, Good Friday, and Boxing Day [Dec 26]; closed for dinner Christmas Day). For breakfast (starting at 8am Mon–Fri and 7am Sat–Sun) or lighter fare (served from 11am daily) there’s also the casual Kuta Café (no bookings taken). To get to the summit, take bus no. 471 from Adelaide Street, in the city; if you’re driving, take Upper Roma Street from the city center, then Milton Road 3.5km (21⁄4 miles) west to the Western Freeway roundabout at Toowong Cemetery. Veer right into Sir Samuel Griffith Drive, and follow the road about 3km (2 miles) up the mountain. A taxi from the city will cost about A$30.
